Current Perspectives in Sikolohiyang Pilipino
It took a while that i am able to update this site considering my MA graduation, two teaching stint, and now a full-time PhD student in clinical psychology at UST. I am currently a volunteer psychologist at the UST Graduate School Psychotrauma Clinic.
A lot of things changed with the initial status i have left in this site. For example, I attended last year the First International Conference on Indigenous and Cultural Psychology and inauguration of the Asian Association for Indigenous and Cultural Psychology held at the University Gadja Madah at Jogjakarta, Indonesia (see http://cicp.psikologi.ugm.ac.id/icicp2010/). A week earlier to that, I attended the postgraduate course class of Dr. Uichol Kim on indigenous psychology as well. But what was interesting about this momentous event is seeing in person Dr. Rogelia Pe-Pua in action talking about IP and SP. Also there was none other than the SP movers in UP like Prof. Jay Yacat, Prof. Chei Billedo, Prof. Tonton Clemente, and Dr. Ces Conaco. Dr. Made Sta. Maria of De La Salle Manila was there as well.
November of the same year in 2010, I attended the National Conference of the PSSP now SEC-registered as the National Association for Filipino Psychology (see http://sikolohiyangpilipino.org/). I was able to meet Dr. Pe-Pua, Dr. Sta. Maria and the SP front-runners especially with the interesting highlight of a roundtable discussion on what lies ahead for SP. I had the video of the entire event but blast my laptop crashed so i have with me the memories of the event.
I will post the table of contents of the compilation i made with the same title of this post. As a preview, the compilation was made as a voluminous collection of "current" take on what is SP and to provide a new alternative material/resource for teachers teaching SP. Portion of the compilation is funded from a grant i obtained while doing my preliminary work with SP way back in 2003. Although the material is not official, the material can be obtained freely thru me but you have to provide necessary information about your interest with the field to get a copy.
Anyways, my work as a research psychologist is still linked with SP but not in the "within" way but by linking indigenous constructs with (Western) clinical constructs. I am interested in indigenous personality models, personality traits, and psychopathology (with major concentration on dark triad, psychopathy, and personality disorders). My MA thesis paper was about personality and psychopathy (http://www.scribd.com/doc/46545970/Normal-Personality-Traits-as-Predictors-of-Psychopathy-doc-for-Sad-Veritatem-2010) and a recent term paper i made was about indigenous personality and the dark triad (http://www.scribd.com/doc/51364810/Utilizing-Filipino-Indigenous-Traits-In-Understanding-the-Dark-Triad-of-Personality).
I might have problems visiting this blogspot for this year because of my busy schedule on doing research papers but you may post in my wall at my facebook account at http://www.facebook.com/john.untalan. Introduce yourself, your story, and email me...
